Aflatoxin
Around The World
Aflatoxin
is a naturally occuring mycotoxin produced by two types of mold:
Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus. It also is a poisonous,
human carcinogen that can cause cancer of the liver. A flavus is
common and widespread in nature and is most often found when certain
nuts and grains, particularly peanuts and corn, are grown under
stressful conditions such as drought.
This
section of our website is only the beginning of a dedicated
effort in providing information about the effects of aflatoxin
contamination on a global basis. Our focus is about both health
and economic issues attributed to a naturally occurring mycotoxin
that creates devastation that impacts mortality and economic stability.
As we expand on identifying the effects of aflatoxin contamination
as related to individual countries around the world, we invite
you to survey one of the most informative sites about aflatoxin
contamination at http://www.google.com,
then type: effects of aflatoxin
contamination in peanuts into
the search
window.
At
our website, we focus primarily on aflatoxin in groundnuts/peanuts.
Although, when aflatoxin creates a catastrophic health problem
associated with another crop, such as maize in Africa; or
causes a major economic problem, as with paprika in Hungary, we
will provide links to world news sources. We will continue to include
current updates; and invite additional input from
anyone viewing our site, from around the world.
